Charles I (as Prince of Wales) - 1616 Oval portrait medal (by R. Ready)

In Stock

55 x 43 mm by Simon De Passe. (This a silver electrotype made Ca. 1860 by Robert Ready)

Obverse: Portrait forward of the Prince

Reverse: British Royal arms

This medallion is in two separate, uniface medallions that have not been joined

For those not familiar with Robert Ready, he was employed by the British Museum in 1859 to re-produce the important coins and medals in their collection. These pieces are made with such quality, they are incredibly hard to tell apart from the original items.

These Silver Oval portrait medals are both rare and incredibly sought after, this piece has an entire history of its own having been taken from the one in the British Museum over 150 years ago, and looks every bit as good as the 400 year old original. Those originals are rarely offered, and when they are fetch many thousands of pounds.
